At Southway Primary School, we strive to create confident mathematicians. They have a secure conceptual mathematical understanding based on fluency throughout the curriculum. They have many opportunities to reason and problem solve through a range of engaging and stimulating learning experiences. Children are taught a broad and balanced maths curriculum which has opportunities for rich, collaborative tasks and application to “real-life” situations. Children explain their thinking clearly using appropriate mathematical vocabulary. They deliberately practice to help secure fluency, and have opportunities to apply mathematics across the curriculum. Children will have secure factual knowledge and mental fluency.
