Welcome to Southway Primary School

A very warm welcome to our school! We look forward to a year of continued progress where children learn lots of new facts, figures and skills, delivered through our exciting curriculum that is filled with adventure, trips, events and visitors that bring their learning alive!

We feel very fortunate to have such fantastic learning environments, both inside and out. They provide a vibrancy that help to capture children’s imaginations and, along with high quality teaching and learning support, encourages a thirst for learning that results in their progress in all year groups.

‘The climate and feel of the school is overwhelmingly positive.’ (DfE 11/2016)

'The school is improving quickly.' (OFSTED 2018)

From Monday 23rdMarch, the school will be closed until further notice for the overwhelming majority of students.

Please note general visitors cannot be admitted to the school at the current time

This is a directive from government and is part of the national strategy to control the spread of COVID-19.

Students will now continue their learning from home. We have developed the learning materials that each student needs to work from home.  Click this link to go to our home learning page or use the banner at the top of this page.

The school will remain open to support the children of critical workers and vulnerable students. This support will be exactly the same as students are receiving from home but will be supervised by staff. If your child is eligible to attend school at this time, a senior leader of the school will have already contacted you to agree arrangements.

Jobs and professions that are defined as being critical workers are outlined here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

If you are a critical worker and have not yet filled in the form we sent you [on Wednesday] to request your child attends school, please do so immediately or contact office@southwayprimary.co.uk

The parents and carers of all vulnerable students have now been contacted by the school to make arrangements for their attendance. If you have not been contacted by the school and believe you should have been, please contact us as soon as possible via office@southwayprimary.co.uk

No other student will be allowed into the academy unless this has been agreed in advance, in writing, with the school.

We will be sending out regular updates to parents but if you have any urgent questions please contact the school via the above email address. We will endeavour to answer these as quickly as we can but please bear with us at this time.

Any urgent safeguarding issues should be reported to our office email.

On behalf of all the staff at Southway, we would like to thank you for all your co-operation and support this week and in the weeks to come. Learning from home is a partnership between parents and school.  We will come through this together as a school community.

Please keep safe and follow all the guidance on hygiene and  social distancing to minimise you and your family’s risk of infection.

We are following the advice of Public Health England (PHE) which can be found on the PHE website: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-educational-settings-about-covid-19/guidance-to-educational-settings-about-covid-19

We continue to emphasise with both staff and pupils the importance of handwashing and hygiene, in line with the guidance about how best to prevent the spread of infection. We are taking opportunities to reinforce these messages regularly and to encourage staff and pupils to wash their hands at regular points throughout the school day.

The Department for Education has launched a new helpline to answer questions about COVID-19 related to education. Staff, parents and young people can contact the helpline as follows:

Phone: 0800 046 8687 (Opening hours: 8am to 6pm- Monday to Friday)
