Art

At Southway Primary School, we believe it is vital to develop children’s knowledge and skills in art as we recognise it is an important form of expression and creativity.

Through our curriculum for art, our children will develop their knowledge of how to use a range of media effectively to create and develop their ideas.

They will learn how to use and understand relevant vocabulary to talk about their work and that of other artists.

The curriculum also helps them develop a proficiency for drawing, painting and other art forms.

They will become familiar with the work of a range of artists and develop their critical appreciation of art by being encouraged to identify similarities and differences in practices and disciplines.

By doing this, they will form their own opinions and appreciate the cultural relevance of great artists, designers and architects in history.
