Learning from Home

Welcome to our home learning page!

Due to the temporary school closure, we have made provision for all our children to continue their learning from home. Our continuity of learning plan is available here.

Our 'Remote education provision: information for parents' document can be viewed by clicking this link. This explains in detail for parents how Southway is providing support for the learning of its pupils from home.

Summary:

How does Home Learning work at Southway?

We are using Office 365 as our platform for home learning. Every child has been given their own account so they can access their learning from anywhere in the world! Once logged in, children can access their learning using Teams, Sharepoint and also via email. Teachers are live streaming lessons daily for the children to take part in. The majority of this is via teams, so children can hear their teachers talking to them, explaining the learning of the day. Most sessions are recorded so children can go back and watch again, or view the lesson at a later time as needed. Feedback to and from children is obtained via live interactions and through emails to their class teacher, saving work on the sharepoint and through Microsoft Forms, which allows children to complete 'quizzes' so their teacher sees their responses.

Our very youngest children were also provided with more home learning materials and practical activities too.

What lessons are being provided?

We are providing live lessons in Maths, English and one of the other subjects each day. Children can then either save work to the sharepoint or email their work/questions to their teacher via our class email adresses. They can even save their work in their OneDrive and share it with their teacher so they can edit it together. It's like having your teacher there with you at home!

What else can we do at home?

In addition to the 'taught' lessons, our children have access to an array of online resources to support learning further. These include Times Tables Rockstars, Accelerated Reader, Lexia Reading, and Discovery Education's Espresso. Below are a number of links to useful websites that will help you with home learning. We also expanded the number of books children could borrow from our school library so that they could do extra reading while public libraries are unavailable.

What if we have an issue with the learning?

Teachers are monitoring which children are responding and will be in contact with families if they need help.  If parents have any questions or need any help, please contact the relevant teacher using the class email addresses. If it is a technical issue with home learning passwords, please contact us via the whatsapp number provided or email office@southwayprimary.co.uk.

What if families don't have a device or an internet connection?

The school is loaning equipment out to families to ensure they can access the online learning. Please email or call the school to let us know if you have an issue.

Parentmail will continue to be used to keep our families up to date.
