welcome to Year 2

Autumn Dragons, Damsels and Dashing Knights!

The term has begun with a mysterious gold box that contains a kiss that missed! We are reading the story 'The Kiss That Missed' and are realising that the kiss has found it's way to us! This has inspired us to create our own kisses and write detailed stories about it's many adventures. As we're Year 2 now, we are working carefully to make these stories even better.

We are visiting Arundel Castle to explore what life was like as a dashing knight or dainty damsel.

We are also planning and organising our own Medieval banquet; reading recipes and solving problems to ensure there are enough seats and food for everyone. We are very excited to show everyone our super costumes in a medieval fashion show.

Spring  'Dive Deep Down'

The spring term has started with some surprise visitors in the classroom in the form of real live fish! We are researching how best to look after these visitors.  As part of our research we have decided to visit the sea life centre in Brighton. We will have a great time looking at various sea creatures and touch crabs, starfish and sea anemones.

Back in the classroom we are finding out about the famous explorer and diver Jacques Cousteau. We are creating a character profile about Jacques Cousteau and a study of his inventions. We have started to look at what we can do to protect our environment and how to keep our beaches clean.

We are reading the diary of Dougal the Diver and writing our own diary entries.

We are being very creative at drawing and painting real mackerel. We are also using lots of different media to create artwork inspired by the artist Alex R.

Summer  'Seeds, Leaves and Buzzing Bees'

There is a strange creature in our room! He has left us some seeds which we have planted. They are starting to grow into a variety of plants and flowers. The strange creatures name is Frog Belly Rat Bone and he has given us his story. The story is set in a dark and gloomy place called Cementland where Frog Belly and his friend live. We are comparing two settings from the story and using a range of literary devices to edit and improve our work.

In science we are learning what plants need to grow and sorting and identifying a variety of plants and seeds. We are also predicting what might happen to our plants and measuring them as they grow.

We are looking forward to visiting Staunton Country Park and Tuppenny Barn later in the term. At Tuppenny Barn we will be finding out all about bees!
