Autumn Circle of Life
The year 3 learning journey begins in the autumn term with farm animals coming to school for the children to look at. The children choose animals to research and sketch. We then visit Goodwood Home Farm where we learn about a modern working farm, and have hand on opportunities to see and touch the animals such as pigs, cows, and sheep.
In the second half of the term, we will be learning about the human skeleton and its function; the function of the organs and what we need to eat to keep us healthy. We will celebrate the end of the topic by showing our year group dance performance that represents The Circle of Life through the farming industry, and sharing some of the activities we have done with the parents.
Spring–MECHANICS AND MOVEMENT
Our Spring Topic is titled Mechanics and Movement. The main theme will be different modes of transport including trains and bicycles. We look forward to a fantastic day at Beaulieu Motor Museum where we will look at amazing vehicles from the first car ever made to a Bugatti Veryon which is worth a million pounds. We also will travel on a monorail, take a trip on a vintage open air bus and have a ride in the original 'Gumdrop' car. In our classes we are lucky enough to have a train set, a scalextric circuit and Meccano models for the children to use.
Summer– CELTS TO KINGS
Our learning journey in the Summer Term, will be a historical topic about Invaders. We will be learning about Celts, Romans, Saxons and Vikings. We will be comparing their houses, clothing, food and weapons and finding out how they are similar and how they differ.
Our trips will include a day at Butser Ancient Farm where we will taking part in activities that show how Iron Age Celts lived; a day at Bignor Roman Villa exploring Roman life and a day in school learning how to be a Roman soldier.
