Welcome to EYFS 1

We have lots of new friends at Nursery this term and we have been getting to know each other. We have been discovering what Winter is like and have explored our cold and frosty environment inside and outside.

We experienced lots of frosty weather in the Nursery garden and have been finding out what happens to water when it is really cold outside.

We created Winter collages and dough snowmen and Polar bears.

We had great fun making sparkly ice and watching it melt. We found ice in our Nursery garden. We made an ice teddy.

We have 'Bears, Bears Everywhere!' and are all becoming bear experts. We have found out where Polar bears live, and what they look like.

We found a brown bear hibernating in our Nursery and we Ware hoping he will wake up soon.  We have been reading books about brown bears so we can look after him when he wakes up!

In February we found a Panda bear in the Nursery who comes from China. The Panda has helped us to celebrate Chinese New Year. We have taken part in a Chinese New Year workshop and have had great fun creating our own New Year Parade, making music and moving together to make a lion and dragon dance.

We have cooked noodles and made lots of mess learning how to eat with chopsticks!

We have created red and gold Chinese banners to bring good luck and have had a go at creating our own Chinese writing.

We have celebrated World Book Day and have had lots of fun dressing up as a favourite book character. We shared our special books with each other and talked about our character.

Our hedgehogs are still asleep in the Nursery but we are busy looking for signs of Spring when they will wake up. We have already noticed that there are buds and shoots appearing in our garden and the daffodils and crocus flowers that we planted in the Autumn have started to come into bloom.

We are busy spring cleaning and enjoying some sunny weather. Lots to do!

Summer Term 2

We Wear Wellies!

We have been developing our lovely planting area. The children watched the new shoots growing as spring arrived and sketched the beautiful daffodils as they started to come into bloom. The children found out about what flowers and plants need to grow and they planted seeds to grow sunflowers, herbs and vegetables for the summer. The children have been learning about the life cycle of a sunflower and measuring their growth. They have been looking at how much they have grown since starting Nursery.

Physical activity is a very important part of our provision and the children have access to a wide range of activities. We have a climbing area, a very large sandpit and a lovely grassed area and pathways where the children can explore, spend time building on a large scale, make dens and ride their bikes.

The children have enjoyed the warm weather and have loved the water play, exploring with a variety of water troughs and equipment in our outside spaces. This term we have set up a pond habitat where the children have been able to watch tadpoles grow into frogs and have witnessed the life cycle first hand.

There was great excitement as we returned from the half term break, with the arrival of some caterpillars! We observed them closely over the following weeks and enjoyed another first hand experience as they emerged as butterflies.

We harvested our strawberries that had been growing all summer and enjoyed tasting them in the sunshine

There was more excitement with the latest addition to our outside area, a mud kitchen! The children were very busy making mud pies, mixing mud potions and getting messy! This is something we believe all children should have the opportunity to do.

As the end of term arrived the children prepared for a butterfly ball. They loved dressing up and engaging in make-believe, singing songs and rhymes that they had been learning and they said farewell to the butterflies, setting them free in the outside area. All that was left to do was to say our fond farewells to the children going up to school. We had a leaving ceremony where the children were awarded certificates and medals for a very successful time at Nursery.

Our Nursery children have been very busy having fun, playing and exploring, making friends and being active learners! We are looking forward to the new term and to meeting new friends that will be starting with us in September.

Autumn Term 3

Here We Are!

We have welcomed each other back to Nursery after the summer break and have been busy meeting and greeting new friends to have fun and play with. Here in our Nursery we have been very busy discovering. We have been talking about ourselves and our families. We are all learning to be independent and we are learning to share, play and talk together.

We are exploring seasonal changes in our environment and are very excited to see how our sunflowers have grown over the summer break. We have been taking photographs, measuring and comparing them with ourselves and creating some lovely art work by printing and painting and making seed arrangements. We have collected the seeds so that we can plant some more in the spring. We have been counting and sorting them.

The weather is getting cooler but we are enjoying some lovely sunny days, working in our outside area.

We are looking for signs of Autumn and exploring the season through all the changing colours outside. We have been exploring the colour yellow and have been sorting things that are yellow. We have created some collages and have tasted some foods that are yellow.
